Access to GP practices and other community health professionals

Unprecedented workload and workforce challenges have put the Island’s GPs under extreme pressure. Recognising their pivotal role, we have put in place through One Wight Health, the Island’s Primary Care Federation, four areas of practical help to enable them to perform to optimum levels:

  1. New Primary Care Team in Central & West - using GPs and Advanced Nurse Practitioners, supported by Healthcare Assistants
  2. Remote Consultation in the South - providing access to GPs, Advanced Practitioners and Healthcare Assistants using online, telephone, Skype, app and email to manage consultations without always having to see patients face to face
  3. Clinical Triage in the North-East – using Advanced Nurse Practitioners, supported by administration staff to direct patients quickly to the most appropriate clinician
  4. Back office administration - creating standardised operational procedures to improve overall quality of administration support across practices
