There is a wide range of support on the Island that can help you to live independently at home. You can find lots of information on the Island's community directory Isle Find it as well as through organisations like:
The Independent Living Centre is run by People Matter IW. The aim of the centre is to enable people who require support for daily living to access support and advice to help them. The centre offers a free and impartial service to Island residents who are looking for equipment and advice to enhance their independence. You can visit their website here.
Community Equipment Services (CES) is a service provided by the Isle of Wight Council, and jointly funded with the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, which provides daily living and nursing equipment to people being cared for in the community to improve their safety, increase independence in their homes and improve their overall quality of life. To loan equipment from them, simply talk to your Healthcare Professional, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist or Community Nurse. They will carry out an assessment of your needs and will liaise with CES depending on your requirements.
A ‘Question Time’ style event at which members of the public, local politicians, and interest groups will be invited to quiz a panel of local experts will kick-start a programme of events to discuss how acute (hospital based) services could be provided in the future on the Island.
