We are working to ensure that children on the Isle of Wight are supported to get the best start in life that will lead to good health and wellbeing. This will provide the foundation to ensure they are able to achieve the best opportunities and keep as healthy and well as possible throughout their lives.
We want to ensure that families, individuals and communities are thriving and resilient with access to good jobs, affordable housing, leisure activities, lifelong training, education and learning, health and care services are are able to enjoy the place in which they live.
We want to ensure that people on the Isle of Wight are able to live independently in their own homes with appropriate care support. We want to make sure older residents are supported to play an active role in their communities and supported to maintain and develop their social and community networks.
Mrs Y is a stroke victim with limited mobility and her elderly husband is her carer. Both were struggling with everyday activities.
Mrs Y needed full time care from her husband to help her to do the most basic of activities. His focus on her needs meant his own were being neglected. As such he had had a number of falls on the garden steps while putting out the washing, and he was struggling to manage the garden as well as care for his wife.
What was put in place to help:
A Care Navigator conducted an assessment of their home, and through their intricate knowledge of available help, discovered they were eligible for a number of life enhancing aids such as grab rails for the bath, and for the garden steps, loan of a bath board, charitable provision of a gardener, and a free nail cutting service.
How things are working now:
The aids have made every day activities easier, safer and less stressful for them both. They are also now able to enjoy the delights that only a well-kept garden can bring.
